Learning a little more about wild and wonderful West Virginia with every painting.
Every finished painting has come through a long process even before my pastels hit the paper on my easel. Starting with inspiration, I progress to research, prod my family and friends for their knowledge and memories, look up facts and photos online and in books, and let all that settle for a bit. My most recent subject was
the Northern Red Salamander.
Growing up in northern NJ I had never experienced catching sight of these little critters, let alone catching them! As I researched, I ended up getting to know this WV State Amphibian, almost as if I had childhood memories of my own.
On the back of every print or note card, I write a short summary of what I have learned while painting. Find out more at my website!
